What is ALDA Boston?
ALDA Boston began in 1989 as a chapter of ALDA, Inc., the Association of Late-Deafened Adults. We are an inclusive organization that provides information, support, and social enrichment for all those with hearing loss. Some of us are late-deafened, others are hard of hearing, and others may be deaf. We utilize various means of communication, such as speech, speech-reading, sign language, and/or pencil-and-paper. Our motto is “whatever works.” ALDA Boston is equal parts social, self-help, outreach, and advocacy. We aim to provide a welcome “home” where we can share our unique experiences, where we can help one another, and where we no longer feel alone and estranged from the hearing world. Our meetings are open to all, and we generally provide CART (realtime captioning services).
